Cork will host Westmeath at Pairc Ui Chaoimh in the first relegation play-off to determine who will stay in division 2 of the Allianz football league and who will drop down to division 3.

The Munster giants have not looked as threatening as one might think this league campaign, picking up two wins from three but still find themselves in a relegation battle.

While Westmeath has lost all three of their league games, they have not looked out of place, leading Mayo for much of the game, before experience shun through. With spirited displays against Meath and Down, they could cause an upset.

Euro 2020: Netherlands v Ukraine – Preview, Predictions and Betting

Netherlands and Ukraine will kick off their 2020 UEFA European Championship, or Euro 2020 campaign in Group C on Sunday, June 13th at 20:00.

Both sides will have a point to prove as they look to get a headstart on one another.

The Dutch will be without Virgil Van Dijk for the whole of Euro 2020 as he is still recovering from his cruciate injury.

Instead, Mathijs De Ligt will be partnered by Inter Milan’s Stefan De Vrij.

A three-man defence was used in the warm-up games and that also included Ajax youngster Jurrien Timber.

Furthermore, Owen Wijndal will be a tricky customer on the left-hand side while Gini Wijnaldum will play as a 10.

The latter has scored four times in his last seven games for his national side, per Transfermarkt.

Memphis Depay has the most important summer of his career ahead of him.

Therefore, he will want to make the most of it.

Andriy Shevchenko’s Ukraine has impressed in the build-up to Euro 2020.

The Eastern European nation has impressed against Spain and France, among others.

In comparison, the Netherlands will not be as tough of an ask for the yellow and blue.

36-year-old captain Andriy Pyatov will wear his heart on his sleeve in goal.

A dogged defence will provide support for him and Oleksandr Zinchenko will play higher up the pitch.

The trio of Ruslan Malinovskyi, Roman Yaremchuk and Andriy Yarmolenko will be tough assignments for the Netherlands back three.

Predicted Lineups

Netherlands (3-5-2): Tim Krul; Stefan De Vrij, Jurrien Timbers, Mathijs De Ligt; Denzel Dumfries, Frenkie De Jong, Gini Wijnaldum, Marten De Roon, Owen Wijndal; Memphis Depay, Wout Weghorst.

Euro 2020: Austria v North Macedonia – Preview, Predictions and Betting

Austria and North Macedonia get Group C of the 2020 UEFA European Championship, or Euro 2020,  started on Sunday, June 13th at 17:00.

Austria is coming into Euro 2020 with a strong squad built on Bundesliga talents.

For example, the main star, David Alaba, will be complemented by Marcel Sabitzer and Xaver Schlager.

They will want to live up to expectations this time around after disappointing in previous years.

To clarify, the Austrian national side finished bottom of their group in Euro 2016 which included Hungary, Portugal and newcomers Iceland.

Daniel Bachmann can provide a solid presence in goal after a stellar season with newly-promoted Watford if he plays but Alexander Schlager of LASK is favoured.

Schlager has only made six appearances for the national side but can improve on that during the competition.

Sasa Kaladzjic will want to make a name for himself on the international stage after a stunning breakthrough season.

Upon reflection, 16 goals and six assists for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga is impressive.

A goal at the Euros will only serve to compliment his talent further.

Austria’s possession-based football will go up against North Macedonia’s low-block.

Furthermore, this low-block can shift into a counterattacking shape when needed.

North Macedonia will make their European Championships debut against ‘Das Team’.

Igor Ankelovski’s side enters Euro 2020 as the lowest-ranked side, per Fifa.

However, the 62nd best team in the world will look to cause an upset or two in the group stages.

37-year-old Goran Pandev and the creative Elif Elmas will be crucial for the side in the tournament.

In addition, the pace of Leeds wing-back Ezgjan Alioski will also be an important weapon for the North Macedonians.

Predicted Lineups

Austria (4-2-3-1): Alexander Schlager; Stefan Lainer, Aleksander Dragovic, Marvin Hinteregger, Andreas Ulmer; Florian Grillitsch, Xaver Schlager; Valentin Lazaro, Christopher Baumgartlinger, David Alaba; Sasa Kaladzjic

North Macedonia (5-3-2):Stole Dimitrevski; Stefan Ristovski, Egzon Betjulai, Visar Musliu, Darko Velkovski, Ezgjan Alioski; Arijan Ademi, Boban Nikolov, Elif Elmas; Goran Pandev, Ivan Trickovski.

England v Croatia Preview, Predictions And Betting

England and Croatia kick-off Group D of the 2020 UEFA European Championship on Sunday, 13th June at 14:00.

England enters the competition as one of the favourites to win it.

They have a squad filled with players entering their prime.

However, they will be missing Trent Alexander-Arnold after his injury against Austria.

Brighton centre-back Ben White has replaced the Liverpool right-back in the squad.

Harry Maguire may miss the opener through injury, but White is a capable deputy.

Ben White could get the nod over the returning Harry Maguire.

In contrast, Croatia is stumbling into the competition after poor showings in the UEFA Nations League and recent international friendlies.

A muscle injury has sidelined Croatia’s Dejan Lovren since April, per Transfermarkt, and his possible absence may be a big one.

As a result, Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car is expected to line up in his place.

The midfield will be the most interesting matchup of the game.

The youthful trio of Declan Rice, Mason Mount and Jude Bellingham will be involved in England’s midfield.

However, Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson could also make an appearance.

Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic can start in the centre of the pitch for the Croatians.

The Croatian midfield will be where most of their attacks begin.

Whoever dominates the middle of the field may end up on top at the final whistle.

Manchester City wingers Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling will be available for selection after joining up with the squad following their UEFA Champions League final loss.

Andrej Kramaric could return to the Croatian starting lineup after being sidelined for Dinamo Zagreb’s Bruno Petkovic up top.

Predicted Lineups

England (4-3-3): Jordan Pickford; Kyle Walker, Ben White, John Stones, Luke Shaw; Declan Rice, Mason Mount, Jude Bellingham; Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane, Phil Foden.

Croatia (4-3-3): Dominik Livakovic; Sime Vrsaljko, Domagoj Vida, Duje Caleta-Car, Borna Barisic; Marcelo Brozovic, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic; Ante Rebic, Andrej Kramaric, Ivan Perisic.

Stars set to shine for the 2021 Irish Open

Dubai Duty Free Irish Open 2021
Mount Juliet Estate, Kilkenny

The Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open 2021 at Mount Juliet Estate is set to feature a who’s who of Irish golf. Graeme McDowell is set to host this year’s event and is set to welcome Rory McIlroy, Pádraig Harrington and Shane Lowry.

Former U.S. Open Champion and Ryder Cup 2010 hero McDowell was unable to fulfill his hosting duties at the 2020 event at Galgoram Castle in Co. Antrim last year. The Ballymena venue hosted the event last September in a pandemic enforced rescheduling. McDowell was among a host of players unable to participate due to their commitments at the U.S. Open in Winged Foot the previous week.

The 2016 Irish Open champion Rory McIlroy makes his return to the event for the first time since Ballyliffin in 2018. While the current Claret Jug holder and 2009 Irish Open winner Shane Lowry is also set to feature. Pádraig Harrington, who won the event at Adare in 2007, is also set to tee off at the beautiful Thomastown course on 1st July.

Last year’s tournament at the Co. Kilkenny venue was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, this year’s event is set to see limited crowds return to the course. A limited number of tickets will be available tomorrow (Thursday, June 10th) for holders of tickets for last year’s event and those who register for a pre-sale window from 2pm tomorrow. Any remaining tickets will go on sale from 5pm.

Hockey Results – Ireland denied European semi spot on goal difference

The Ireland women’s hockey team were denied a European semi-spot by a single goal on goal difference.

Women’s EuroHockey Championships

Pool A

Ireland 1 (R Upton) Spain 1 (B Garcia)

Ireland’s World Cup qualification hopes remain on hold as Spain kept them at arm’s length, denying them the win they needed to reach the EuroHockey Championship semi-finals for the first time in Amstelveen.

Roisin Upton’s early goal had Ireland flying high but a Spanish equaliser from Begona Garcia meant honours even and, ultimately, Sean Dancer’s side miss out on the semis by a single goal on goal difference.

The two sides – ranked seventh and eighth in the world – have been the most regular sparring partners on the world stage, both rising rapidly in the rankings. Ireland won the last big date at the 2018 World Cup semi-final and while the normal time outcome was the same this week, it was the Spaniards who got to celebrate.

The Green Army got off to a dream start, Naomi Carroll tearing down the right channel to draw a penalty corner. Her Catholic Institute club mate duly finished off the set piece, a bullet drag-flick into the bottom corner.

Spain – bronze medalists at the World Cup and 2019 Euros – are on a similar upward curve like Ireland and quickly showed their wares, picking off accurate long-range passes to press Ireland back.

From their first corner, they were back on terms in the 12th minute. It was a slick piece of work, a stepover gifting Maria Lopez time to pick out Begoña Garcia at the injector’s spot and she swept home from close range.

It became an absorbing contest after that with Spain enjoying the majority of the ball and looking to press on while Ireland went into a counter-attack mode. It meant precious few chances between the second and third quarters with the greens not overly troubled during spells down to 10 players to a couple of green cards, likewise Spain when Lucia Jimenez went to the sin-bin.

Ayeisha McFerran got a strong stick to deny Lola Riera just before the end of the third quarter, keeping the tie very much up in the air for a high octane final 15 minutes.

Lopez’s heavily deflected shot clattered off the post and fell invitingly for Hawkshaw to start a brilliant counter which culminated in Anna O’Flanagan earning Ireland’s second corner. Shirley McCay’s shot, though, was well dealt with by the Spanish defence.

Spain – who only required a draw – continued to push forward, keeping Ireland at arm’s length as Upton produced some heroics to clean up a huge Spanish chance while McFerran swept up three more chances.

That golden opportunity never accrued for Ireland and means they will now contest Pool C where four teams will battle it out for the one remaining World Cup spot from this competition.

It does mean, however, the Green Army will have to play a European qualifier in 2022 if they are to compete on this stage again in 2023.

Three John Gosden and Frankie Dettori horses to watch at Royal Ascot 2021

When it comes to Royal Ascot, few jockey/trainer partnerships have had more success than John Gosden and Frankie Dettori. Year after year, the duo scoop victories in the biggest races at the prestigious five-day meeting, and the upcoming renewal looks set to be no different — as they lead the way in many of the top racecards with sites like this one: https://smarkets.com/sport/horse-racing

So, with the 2021 edition of Royal Ascot just a matter of weeks away, let’s take a look at the Gosden/Dettori horses that you need to keep an eye out for this year. Read on to find out more!

Palace Pier – Queen Anne Stakes

Where better to start than with Palace Pier, who is heavy favourite in day one’s feature race, the Queen Anne Stakes. The four-year-old is odds-on to win the one-mile outing at 4/7 and there’s no doubt that he will be a popular bet in punters’ opening day accumulators. Palace Pier won three times last season, including the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at last year’s meeting, and has started this campaign in fine form — winning the Group 2 Mile at Sandown before landing the Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury earlier this month, beating Lady Bowthrope over the line by a length and a half. Alpine Star and Order Of Australia are his nearest competition at 7/1. However, given their inconsistent form, it would be a real surprise to see one of them pip Palace Pier in this race.

Lord North – Prince Of Wales’s Stakes

At 9/4, Lord North offers a little more value for money in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, day two’s showpiece race. The five-year-old won the Group 1 race by almost four lengths clear of Addeybb last year, but was rather disappointing for the remainder of the season, failing to win in three outings including coming home in last in the Champion Stakes back at Ascot in October. However, he kicked off this season with a victory in the prestigious Dubai Turf, which boasts a purse of £1.75m for the winner, at Meydan in March and if he can carry that form into Ascot, you’d expect him to hold off the challenges of Love and the rest of the field.

Stradivarius – Gold Cup

All eyes will be on Stradivarius in the Gold Cup, the flagship race of the week. The seven-year-old is gunning for a record-equalling fourth successive victory in the two-mile, four-furlong race and he’s currently available at around 6/4 to do so. Stradivarius’ Gold Cup triumph last year was perhaps his most impressive yet as he romped over the line 10 lengths clear of Nayef Road in second. He got the better of the Mark Johnston-trained horse again in the Goodwood Cup, this time by just a length. However, like Lord North it was a disappointing end to the season, as he went without a win in three races. He’s kicked off this campaign with a win at Ascot back in April, and there’s no doubt that his fans will be hoping that he’s back on top form for the Royal meeting.

Fantasy Football: The Best Strikers For Your Euro 2020 Fantasy Team

Finally, we discuss forwards for the Euro 2020 fantasy football guide.

If you missed the guide on midfielders, click here to read it first.

Forwards include wingers and strikers and the legacy of these players can be made by one good tournament.

Strikers such as David Villa and Milan Baros have lit up the international scene at UEFA European Championships in the 21st century.

Imagine the fantasy points they would have earned.

CRISTIANO RONALDO – PORTUGAL, €12m

First up is Cristiano Ronaldo – who else?

Ronaldo has been unstoppable for most of his career and has five Ballon d’Ors to date.

He dragged an otherwise weak Portugal side to the final of Euro 2016 alongside Nani and Quaresma.

Now part of a much stronger side, Portugal do not have to rely on him as much.

However, when the ball is played up to him, it is always a dangerous moment.

Goals galore and lots of points lie behind a €12m price tag.

ROMELU LUKAKU – BELGIUM, €11m

Second on the list is Romelu Lukaku.

The Serie A MVP has reminded everyone of his world-class talent at Inter Milan.

In addition to this, his goalscoring does not stop when he plays for Belgium.

Lukaku has scored a national record 60 goals in 93 games for his national side.

He does not look like stopping either.

The goals will keep coming with Dries Mertens by his side and Kevin De Bruyne behind him.

He has the highest pick rate of any forward in the game – 43 per cent.

Romelu Lukaku is all yours for €11m.

FANTASY FOOTBALL FIND: SASA KALADZJIC – AUSTRIA, €7.5m

Sasa Kaladzjic had a fantastic breakout season for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

16 goals and 6 assists in 33 games earned him a spot in the Austrian squad for Euro 2020.

In a group that is much wider than it appears, Kaladzjic could make a name for himself.

He is valued at just under £20m by Transfermarkt currently but that number will double with a good tournament.

The first game against North Macedonia will be a good time to get off the mark.

For €7.5m, you can get behind Kaladzjic before the world takes notice.

Your forward line will always be high scorers when these three are in your fantasy side.

Chelsea transfer lists out of favour Ziyech

Thomas Tuchel has put Hakim Ziyech up for transfers after one disappointing year at the club

The 28-year-old signed for Chelsea last season from Ajax for €40 million.

Ziyech ended up fighting for game time with Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The midfielder failed to impress in a squad that finished in the Premier League top four and won the Champions league.

Rumours have spread that the relationship between Ziyech and the manager has now ‘broken down,’ according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

What happened to Ziyech?

Ziyech joined Chelsea with a slight injury and was never able to cement his place in the starting team.

The Moroccan was prolific for Ajax but could not find the same form for the Blues, only getting two goals and three assists in the league.

This teamed with his lack of work rate in defense did not make him a favorite for fans.

After coach Frank Lampard was replaced by Tuchel midway through the season the midfielder played even less.

Throughout the season, Ziyech rarely played the full 90 minutes, only making 15 starts.

Where could Ziyech go?

Ziyech was instrumental in Ajax’s recent European successes, including getting to the Champions League semi-final.

The creative midfielder is meant to in the prime of his career and for the reasonable price of €40 million most big clubs in Europe could buy him.

He remains a relative risk as he has only spent one season outside of the Eredivisie.

With no injury concerns, a return to Ajax or a move into the Serie A could be on the cards.

Both AC Milan and Napoli have previously shown interest in the player and could be willing to spend their money on him this summer.

Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling have previously found form in Serie A, the Moroccan could be next.
