Preview: Euro 2020 Group C

Group C of the 2020 UEFA European Championships sees some old faces return and new ones attempt to stand out in the crowd.

Austria, Netherlands, North Macedonia, and Ukraine make up the third group of Euro 2020 this summer.

The group may be the least exciting on paper but there are reasons to be excited about it.

AUSTRIA

Austria will be hoping to live up to expectations this time around after a bitterly disappointing Euro 2016 campaign saw them finish bottom of their group.

The Austrian squad for this summer’s championship is full of players at the height of their career.

Austria’s talisman David Alaba will be very important for the side.

He is expected to play a more attacking role than he did for Bayern Munich this past season.

A stacked midfield also includes Bundesliga stars Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer.

Former West Ham star Marko Arnautovic will lead the line for the Austrians, possibly alongside Sabitzer or Sasa Kalajdzic.

An experienced defence will sit in front of Watford’s Daniel Bachmann, who is heading to the Euros after a successful season with the Hornets.

A ball-dominant display against England gave fans a sneak-peek at their attacking intent.

NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands is in a major tournament for the first time since their 2014 World Cup run which saw them finish third.

The side had looked to be one of the tournament favourites when Ronald Koeman was in charge, but with the loss of both him and Virgil Van Dijk, that idea has faded.

A 4-2 loss to Turkey in March exposed their weaknesses.

There are still many world-class players involved in the squad – Memphis Depay, Georginio Wijnaldum and Mathijs De Ligt to name a few – but they tend to make it look harder than it needs to be.

Young talents such as Owen Wijndal and Ryan Gravenberch could shine if given the chance, but the tactical shortcomings of their current manager Frank de Boer handicap the side.

Nonetheless, their home advantage in all three group games will help them along the way.

They should progress past the group stage, but an upset is always possible against this Dutch side.

NORTH MACEDONIA

North Macedonia are the lowest-ranked side in the European Championships this summer.

Entering through the Nations League’s bottom-tier playoff, they will be cast aside by many pundits before kicking a ball.

However, their recent victory over the German national side shows what they are capable of.

Manager Igor Angelovski sets up his side in a defensive  5-3-2 formation but they can be lethal in attack.

Napoli’s Elif Elmas and 37-year-old Goran Pandev are very important to the side.

Although it is a slimmer chance than the other three teams, the North Macedonians could enjoy some knockout international football this summer.

UKRAINE

Ukraine is the final team involved in Group C.

The side has crept back into the spotlight of European football under the management of Andriy Shevchenko.

Wins against Portugal and Spain have given the side a lot of attention.

Furthermore, the side cruised to the top spot in their qualifying group.

Their squad for the Euros is a youthful group with several veterans also present.

The side is one of the dark horses at the tournament and could impress neutrals.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Mykola Matvienko will be crucial in defence with Gregory Bushchan in goal behind them.

Ukraine soaks up pressure against the stronger sides in Europe and unleashes their attacking force of Yarmolenko, Yaremchuk and Malinovskyi on others.

Shevchenko’s side can progress, but this group is tighter than it appears.

Group C Fixtures: Austria v North Macedonia Sunday, 13th June 17:00. Netherlands v Ukraine Sunday, 13th June 20:00. Ukraine v North Macedonia Thursday, 17th June 14:00. Netherlands v Austria Thursday, 17th June 20:00. Ukraine v Austria Monday, 21st June 17:00. North Macedonia v Netherlands Monday, 21st June 17:00.

ENDS

Preview: Euro 2020 Group A

The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship begins in under two weeks and 24 national sides are gearing up for their chance at European glory.

Six groups of four will be battling it out for their place in the knockout stages.

After the group stages conclude, a maximum of three from a group can progress.

Two groups will only have two teams progress because only four third-place sides are needed to make up the last 16.

Group A is up first – Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, and Wales.

ITALY

Italy has been one of the standout national sides in Europe recently and is unbeaten in 27 games.

Roberto Mancini’s men are favourites to win Group A with a resolute defence and strong attack.

Veterans like Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci will be part of the side but younger players will also prove important if Italy live up to expectations.

In particular, Nico Barella, Federico Chiesa and Gigi Donnarumma will help to create a fine mix of young and old Azzurri.

In addition, many players in the squad are in their prime years.

Marco Verratti, Ciro Immobile and Jorginho are among those at the top of their game.

The talent of Barella, Verratti and Locatelli in midfield will be tough for the opposition to suppress.

All their group games will have home advantage as they are at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Therefore, the Italians will have a pre-emptive edge over their group stage opponents.

SWITZERLAND

Switzerland is looking to make a statement at the Euros this summer.

In recent years, their defence has been impressive, conceding only six in eight games to qualify for the competition.

Specifically, Bundesliga stars Yann Sommer and Manuel Akanji will be key in maintaining this.

However, they have lost to some of the top sides in Europe recently.

Now is the perfect time to change that with Haris Seferovic in his prime and Xherdan Shaqiri looking to make a point this summer.

Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler will be among those who will look to connect defence and attack.

Furthermore, Djibril Sow and Denis Zakaria will give the national side options in midfield.

Therefore, Switzerland’s final group game may be the decider for second place as they face a young Turkey side in the closing round.

TURKEY

Turkey is one of the dark horses of the European Championships this summer because of their strong squad that has flown under the radar.

Manager Senol Gunes is in his second stint with his home country after a successful period at Besiktas.

The 2002 UEFA Coach of the Year has a talent-filled squad once again ahead of Euro 2020, the youngest at the tournament.

The legendary Turkish manager took the side to third place at the 2002 World Cup.

Above all, Gunes will want to be a part of another strong tournament with this new generation.

Ozan Kabak and Caglar Soyuncu offer a strong defensive partnership with Zeki Celik providing width at full-back.

The chemistry between Celik and strikers Yusuf Yazici and Burak Yilmaz will be important for the Turks.

The trio won Ligue 1 together with Lille this season.

As a result of this, they will be hungry for more success this summer.

Okay Yokuşlu and Hakan Calhanoglu will offer support for both ends of the pitch in midfield and Ozan Tufan will provide some individual magic.

The side has adequate depth – with Merih Demiral and Orkun Kokcu among those waiting in the wings.

WALES

The final side in Group A is 2016 semi-finalists Wales.

The Wales hierarchy will be hoping for a similar tournament this year and have chosen a squad that reflects this hope.

Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu will play in central defence and Neco Williams and Ben Davies will play on either side of them.

Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen will supply a strike force that includes Gareth Bale and Harry Wilson.

David Brooks and Ben Cabango are also included in the squad but the strength of Wales’ opponents may prove too powerful, in contrast.

However, caretaker manager Rob Page has won four games and drawn two since taking the reins.

Their form could carry over into the tournament and turn Group A on its head.

Group A Fixtures: Turkey v Italy, Friday, 11th June 20:00. Wales v Switzerland, Friday, 12th June 14:00. Turkey v Wales, Wednesday 16th June 17:00. Italy v Switzerland, Wednesday 16th June 20:00. Italy v Wales, Sunday, 20th June 17:00. Switzerland v Turkey, Sunday, 20th June 17:00.

Casino Gambling and Sports Betting: Which is Better?

Are you torn between sports betting and casino gambling and not sure which one you want to spend your money on? Are you looking to try your hand at a bit of gambling but aren’t sure if you should try out casino gambling or give sports betting a shot?

Whether its casino gambling or sports betting, the gambling industry in general has grown massively as a whole, but each industry individually has also grown immensely. Some have many bonuses, while online casinos like Casino Secret have automatic cashback so there is massive variety. Although both are forms of gambling, casino gambling and sports betting are actually quite different from each other and you get a vastly different experience from each. Sports gamblers want to place their bets on a team or player and hope for a win, while casino gamblers prefer to play the odds with various dice, card, roulette wheel, slot machine, or other game combinations.

The biggest difference between them is that you can’t legally bet on sports at an online casino. If you are new to gambling, then you might not know which form of gambling is best for you, so here are a few things to consider.

Long-term odds of winning

When it comes to odds of winning, it’s all up in the air a bit because most of the time gambling is based purely on luck and chance, especially when it comes to casino gambling. Casino gambling odds change from game to game and from casino to casino so it can be difficult to decipher which games will have better odds of winning than others. It’s common knowledge that when it comes to casino gambling, your best odds of winning will be at the table games as these games actually require skill and strategy, whereas games such as slots are completely based on luck and chance.

On the other hand, when it comes to sports betting, you might actually have a better chance of winning here because you can make informed bets and decisions based on previous games or rounds and the history of the game, just by doing a bit of research.

Betting options

Online casino gambling is revolutionary, not only because they are online, but because they offer so many more game options than a regular casino. Here you will find all of the regular games you will find at a casino such as slots, roulette, poker, blackjack, and craps, and then even more on top of that such as gamified version of these games or different themes for each game.

When it comes to sports betting especially in Betastic , the opportunities are endless. There are so many different sports that one can bet on such as horse racing, dog racing, football, baseball, and more. There are more sports to bet on than games to play at an online casino which means there is a bit more variety.

level of entertainment

if you are looking for some entertainment, both are a good option, however, they offer different kinds of entertainment. When it comes to casino gambling, other times this is just mindless fin if you are playing luck-based games. It offers fast paced entertainment which payoff quickly. Whereas, when it comes to sports betting, you have to put time and effort in to choosing the right game to bet on and the right player, team or horse to bet on, and this process is a lot slower and a bit more meaningful. When sports betting you need to do a bit of research which means the entertainment lasts much longer for one bet.

Level of strategy

Although some casino games depend on strategy, a lot of them can be played without nay skill or strategy and you will still get the same level of entertainment. When it comes to sports betting, the basis of the games its strategy and you need to go into the bet with a well thought out plan if you are wanting to win. There is a lot of research involved in sports betting but once you understand the game, it is much easier.

Cost

While sports betting may look more expensive at face value because the price of one bet it a lot higher than gambling at a regular casino, this is actually not the case. In fact, casino gambling actually comes out to be quite a bit more expensive that sports betting because of just how fast paced it actually is and how many games you can bet on in a short space of time. Sports betting comes out to be cheaper because on bet takes quite a long time to carry out from start to finish.

Man United will meet Dortmund’s asking price for Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are set to spend £80 million to bring the English winger back to his home country

Jadon Sancho had another good season with German team Borussia Dortmund this year making United more willing to spend big money on him.

The 21-year-old scored 16 goals and got 20 assists in all tournaments last year which helped Dortmund win a DFP Pokal.

United showed large interest in signing Sancho last season but negotiations fell through when the English side were not willing to spend £110 million on the youngster.

If England do well at Euro 2020 then United could be competing with Chelsea and Liverpool for the youngster with a higher price.

According to Laurie Whitwell of the Athletic, the Manchester team are confident that they could have Sancho signed before the start of the European Championships.

Whitwell say: “Negotiations have begun in earnest over a price for the 21-year-old and United have been given encouragement that Borussia Dortmund will accept a lower amount than last summer’s asking price.”

England manager, Gareth Southgate would be hoping that the winger is more focused on their opening game of the European Championships against Croatia.

Sancho is preparing for the competition starting on the 11th of June with possibly his future club teammates Marcus Rashford, Dean Henderson and Luke Shaw.

Manchester United has strong attacking players for Sancho to compete with like Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial.

It was clear in the Europa League final this season that the team relied to heavily on Bruno Fernandes for creativity and there is no denying the quality that Sancho could bring to the squad.

How Do Manchester City Replace Sergio Aguero?

Sergio Aguero’s Manchester City career is nearing an end. The Argentine has played a leading role in the Citizens’ success over the past decade, and his departure marks the end of a goal-filled era. Aguero will be remembered as a Premier League legend, having won the league on five separate occasions. With the 32-year-old’s time at the Etihad reaching its conclusion, Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City hierarchy need to consider what’s next. So, who’s capable of filling the Argentine’s boots?

The Argentine Will Hope to Go Out in Style

Having already won the Premier League, there’s still plenty left to play for in the final weeks of the 2020-21 season. Following their semi-final win over Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City find themselves in their first Champions League final. The all-English contest pits the Citizens against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, and Guardiola’s team are 5/6 in Champions League outright odds with Paddy Power to win the competition, as of May 25th.

Few can argue that winning the Champions League wouldn’t be a poetic way for Aguero to end his Manchester City career. In 2014, the Argentine stated that he wouldn’t leave the Citizens until they won the sought-after European competition. Now, the stars are aligning for the 32-year-old to depart in style, although Chelsea stand in their way.

Aguero has been at the heart of Manchester City’s domestic and European rise, with his goals firing the Citizens in contention. It speaks volumes about his ability that in 47 Champions League games for the Sky Blues, the 32-year-old found the net on 36 occasions. Combined with his Atletico Madrid contributions, Aguero is the joint-16th top scorer in the competition’s history.

Will City Spend the Money on a Marquee Replacement?

It’s no secret that money is no object for Manchester City, meaning that replacing Aguero isn’t an impossible task. However, financial muscle doesn’t guarantee goals, whereas the Argentine does. The Citizens have several in-house options at their disposal, and Guardiola has hinted that Ferran Torres could move inside to lead the line in a post-Aguero era. The Premier League champions also have Gabriel Jesus available, giving the club’s manager further food for thought.

<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/g3-4UeaKEDg” title=”YouTube video player” frameborder=”0″ allow=”accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture” allowfullscreen></iframe>

However, if Manchester City want guaranteed goals, they could move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. The Englishman has stated his desire to leave the London club to win trophies, and a transfer to the Citizens would seemingly suit all parties. The 27-year-old is a proven top-flight goalscorer, and he’d arguably improve City’s starting side, which is a frightening thought for the club’s rivals. Alternatively, Erling Haaland is a more long-term investment, and he doesn’t suffer from injury problems like Kane.

A Crucial Summer Awaits Guardiola

Aguero wasn’t always a go-to player for Guardiola during their period together at the Etihad, but that doesn’t mean that the Spaniard won’t miss having him around. As the 32-year-old showed in his final Premier League outing against Everton, he’s still one of the most prolific players in world football. Because of that, replacing him won’t be easy, even for a club with City’s financial power.

Video Replay – Dettori & O’Brien into Oaks record books with Snowfall 16-length

Video Replay – Dettori & O’Brien into Oaks record books with Snowfall 16-length.

Frankie Dettori rode Snowfall into the record books to win the Cazoo Oaks by the biggest margin in the race’s history – then admitted: “I’ve won many Classics but not one as easily as that.”

The 16-length demolition job at Epsom Downs was a 21st career Classic victory for the 50 year old Italian and a second of the season after winning the QIPCO 1000 Guineas on Mother Earth at Newmarket last month.

Snowfall’s impressive triumph was also a 40th British Classic for trainer Aidan O’Brien, equalling 19th Century handler John Scott’s record. As well as saddling the winner, O’Brien was responsible for third placed Divinely (20-1), Santa Barbara (5-2 favourite, fifth), La Joconde (11th) and Willow (14th).

Afterwards a beaming Dettori said: “It was unbelievable. Obviously she made the running in the Musidora. I wanted a better position but they were going way too fast. Everybody was fighting to get in the first three so I let them get on with it.

“Aidan said ‘ride her like a good filly, don’t put it in your head that you have to make the running’. I thought out there I had everything beat. In front they had all gone and I had the luxury to take one set of my goggles down. I thought, ‘don’t be clever, just cut through the middle’, and I did.

“The only one horse I hadn’t seen yet was Santa Barbara and I had a quick glance and I was already five in front and she took off, as simple as that.”

Asked if he realised how far clear he had been, Dettori replied: “I knew I was at least eight in front. It is quite remarkable because I pulled up by the stables and everyone pulled up by the winning post!

“I’ve won many Classics but not one as easily as that. I was in the race (Musidora) and we cantered and single-handedly gave it to Ryan (Moore). But I watched the replay yesterday and she was going away from the field.

“The question marks today were the ground and the distance but she proved me wrong that she does stay and that she doesn’t mind the ground.

“It is great. I was watching the documentary on the great Fred Archer yesterday and I’ve equalled his record of 21 (Classic winners) so I’m now only nine behind Lester (Piggott).

“I think I’ve had seven winners (this season). Two Classics, a Chester Cup, two minor races at Newmarket and a Group Three at Haydock so it’s not too bad! I ride for John (Gosden) and unfortunately we didn’t have any Classic runners this year and I was able to jump on a couple of the Coolmore team’s so I’m very lucky.

“The second, third or fourth string are just as good and you never know what you are going to land. I was like a hot knife through butter. I had everything beat around Tattenham Corner. It was a little bit like playing cowboys and indians and I was the cowboy with the gun. I don’t remember the last time I won a race by 16 lengths.”

Dettori’s long career has seen him ride high profile winners for trainers all over the world and he added: “I’ve done the rounds. I’ve been with Sheikh Mohammed, I’ve been with Coolmore, John Gosden, Luca (Cumani) so I’ve been around the block a bit so it is quite weird.

“Racing has been good to me. The Oaks was my first Classic I don’t know how many years ago now, but I’m still talking to you, riding in the big races on the good horses so I will take it and I’m very happy.”

Referring to Snowfall’s future prospects, he added: “Enable was very good. She did the King George, the Irish Oaks and Arc and I wouldn’t put it past her (to do the same) as she is very good.”

Trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “We’re obviously delighted. We thought Snowfall was a very good filly last year and we were disappointed a few times, and she had a few things happen to her that meant races didn’t work out for her.

“She had a lot of experience, raced a lot and did very well over the winter physically, and the step up in trip as well. She’s a very good-moving filly and showed a lot of class. We were just a bit worried about the soft ground today.

“She was very impressive at York and you couldn’t have asked her to do more than she did. She came out of the race very well. David who rides her every day was delighted with her. She was obviously doing very well physically, and Frankie was very impressed with her. He said that at all stages she was cantering. She’s a very exciting filly for this year.

“We thought she was a proper Group One filly last year. Usually if they show that kind of class, it will come. She’s been very unlucky – she just got caught in a maiden at The Curragh one day, and the next day she clipped heels in a maiden and Seamus nearly came off her. Incidents happen to her, and we just went gentle away, but we still campaigned her in good races. She ran in the Fillies Mile at Newmarket – those were the kind of races she was running in, but maybe she got stronger over the winter.

“Santa Barbara – Ryan said cantered into the race, and he just said in that ground she just emptied out on him, so she’ll go back probably to a mile and a quarter. She’s got loads of class, and we thought she’d handle the ground, but in that ground, the trip was a worry, especially showing the pace that she shows. The combination of trip and soft ground was the worry – if it was a mile and a quarter on soft ground, probably Santa Barbara would have been fine.

“They were both very classy fillies at home. In soft ground at home, Santa Barbara was probably a bit stronger than this filly (Snowfall), but they haven’t run together – that would be just watching them go through their work. Santa Barbara canters through her work in soft ground, because she’s a big, powerful, strong filly, but Snowfall has developed into a big filly. I said to Frankie today about the ground and he said it was proper soft ground, and she’s obviously just a very good filly.”

Asked about Bolshoi Ballet’s chances in tomorrow’s Cazoo Derby, for which he is favourite, O’Brien replied: “Bolshoi Ballet was very impressive on good-ish ground last, and he ended up going to France on very bad ground.

“For me that was a good thing that he did that; the ground was deep in France and you couldn’t expect him to like it, but the focus was on would he cope with it, and for me he did cope with it and wasn’t beaten that far.

“So we know what he can do on good ground and obviously we are not going to get that tomorrow, but we might get slow ground or dead ground. We can hope, but what we saw in France last year should mean there’s definitely a chance. He’s never raced beyond a mile and a quarter, but at that trip he never looked like he was stopping, whereas Santa Barbara hadn’t ever raced further than a mile, so it was a big jump for her, and today was nearly riding like further than a mile and a half.

“Obviously I don’t think it will be ideal for any good ground horse, but Bolshoi Ballet is fit and he’s well and he’s here, and that’s all we can do, really.”

Asked whether he might now consider running Snowfall against Love in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, O’Brien replied: “Absolutely; the lads can do whatever they want. I was talking to Frankie about this filly (Snowfall) and the Irish Oaks and so on, and he said, ‘Don’t be afraid to take on the older horses with this filly, and don’t be afraid to do it early if you want’. So there’s every chance she could end up there. I didn’t really think she wanted a mile and a half, but looking at that, she gets it unreal, doesn’t she? As she’s gone up in trip, the more impressive she’s become.”

Runner-up Mystery Angel was only added to the race six days ago when a supplementary entry at a cost of £22,500. The daughter of Kodi Bear amply justified that decision, bagging connections £84,925 as she came home second at 50-1.

Trainer George Boughey said: “She’s a superstar and obviously we bumped into a freak. What a fantastic ride from Ben (Curtis), who executed the plan perfectly. We wanted to get to the front and we weren’t very well drawn. It was a big call to supplement and it’s paid off massively.

“I’m not sure what the future holds for her. We’ll get her home and see how she is, but the Ribblesdale comes a bit quick and she’s had quite a hard season and has been to France twice, so we’ll just mind her a bit. She’s obviously a Group One filly, and she’s got Group One black type now.

“To finish second in the Oaks is amazing. We’ve got a growing team at home and everyone is working very hard. Nick (Bradley) and his team have a lot of horses with us now and are big supporters, so it’s a very special day for us all.”

Seamie Heffernan, rider of third-placed Divinely, said: “I rode her to be placed and she’s run a super race.”

Roger Varian, trainer of Save a Forest (fourth), Teona (10th) and Zeyaadah (13th), said: “I thought Save A Forest ran great. She got into a bit of trouble when they crossed over. I don’t know if it cost her third as he never really stopped riding, but however you look at it she’s run a great race.

“We don’t think Zeyaadah got home on the ground. She travelled into it nicely but she hasn’t seen it out. Teona just wants faster ground and is still a bit babyish. I trained the mother, Ambivalent, and it couldn’t be firm enough for her. I should think this filly would be similar.”

WHAT THE BEATEN JOCKEYS SAID

Sean Levey, Technique (seventh)

“With the ground changing it changed for a lot of people. Mine being a Mastercraftsman, she actually went really well until we got down the hill in the home straight. It just took its toll on her then and she didn’t seem to handle the track even though she has done before. She hung all the way down the hill and didn’t really run the race I’d have liked her to and I think she’d have run a better race on better ground.”

Hollie Doyle, Sherbet Lemon (ninth)

“She’s run really well for a really long way. I got a nice position and she travelled well, she hit a flat spot and I just didn’t have that tactical speed to go with them. I got a bump and she’s just stayed on at the one pace.”

David Egan, Teona (10th)

“She settled for the first half of the race which was her main aim. She was actually running a bit behind the bridle which is lovely to see as she did far too much at York but she’ll be a different filly on better ground.”

Franny Norton, Dubai Fountain (12th)

“I was struggling from halfway.”

Jim Crowley, Zeyaadah (13th)

“I had a lovely trip round and she just didn’t get home today.”

In terms of league form, both teams are somewhat similar, losing to Dublin and beating Clare. The two sides have been hot and cold this season. In their last outing, Wexford were truly outclassed by a vibrant and undefeated Kilkenny side and will hope to get back to winning ways. While Antrim put up a spirited effort against Dublin, only losing by eight points. It should be tight game.

While the Dublin football team is seemingly unbeatable, Dublin hurling is at a crossroads in terms of success and dominance, they ultimately capitulate against any of the top sides but are still considered a good side, a win against a Clare side who have lost back-to-back games against Clare and Wexford will give them confidence come time for the championship, but Clare won’t be no pushovers.
