US-based Irish-born trainer Patrick Gallagher won Saturday’s US$252,500 Del Mar Oaks with Red Lark.
Red Lark, an Irish-bred daughter of Epaulette, and who was formerly trained in Ireland by Johnny Murtagh, made her first stakes victory count at the highest level.
Bred by Mrs. S. M. Rogers and Sir Thomas Pilkington and raced by Eclipse Thoroughbreds, Red Lark was offered for sale twice in 2018 and could not find a buyer.
After failing to win in five starts while running in Ireland in 2019, Red Lark was switched from Johnny Murtagh to Patrick Gallagher to resume her career in California.
She broke her maiden at Santa Anita in February, was fourth in the Grade 3 Honeymoon Stakes, second in the Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes in June and was third, beaten a length, behind her Del Mar Oaks rivals Carpe Vinum and California Kook in an allowance optional claimer at Del Mar in July.
Red Lark, ridden Drayden Van Dyke, was settled just off midfield before becoming a threat when fourth on the home turn. With Warren’s Showtime beaten, the eventual winner safely held the challenge of the late finishing California Kook by a length.
Speaking of his Grade 1 win, Patrick Gallagher said:
“I was confident in the filly. I knew she was happy and all, but I didn’t know if she was good enough. She needed to run the race of her life, and she did.
“Drayden (Van Dyke) had her in a great spot all the way, and when he asked, she responded and was good enough.”

One to watch is John Floody and he too has maximised his changes, declaring Accidental Diamond, Ballyknock Diamond and Donevan Erkindale.
Connacht v Ulster at the Aviva at 4:30 pm on Sunday 23rd August, we have the starting teams, preview and betting advice.
Irish International Bundee Aki will make his 100th appearance for Connacht on Sunday after he was named to start in the Guinness PRO14 clash with Ulster at the Aviva Stadium (k/o 4.30pm).
Aki joined Connacht in 2014 and has gone on to play a central role in the province’s fortunes since then. He was named Guinness PRO12 Player of the Season in 2015/16, the same year he helped the team to their first ever title.
His form was rewarded with a first call-up to the Ireland squad in the 2017 Autumn Internationals. He has been an ever-present member of the squad since then, making 26 appearances and starting every game in the Grand Slam victory of 2018.
Elsewhere at least two players will make their Connacht Rugby debuts on Sunday with Alex Wootton and Academy graduate Peter Sullivan both named on the wings. They form a back three with John Porch who slots in at full-back.
Tom Farrell will partner Aki in the centre with Irish international Kieran Marmion and Jack Carty forming a formidable half-back partnership.
In the forwards there’s a return to action for prop Finlay Bealham after sustaining a serious injury against Edinburgh in February, and he makes up an experienced front-row with Denis Buckley and hooker Dave Heffernan.
Ultan Dillane and Gavin Thornbury have been named in the second row, and the starting XV is completed by flankers Eoghan Masterson and captain Jarrad Butler, with Paul Boyle named at number 8.
Three more players could make their Connacht debuts off the bench, with props Jordan Duggan and Jack Aungier, and back row Conor Oliver all included.
The remainder of the replacements is made up of Jonny Murphy, Niall Murray, Stephen Kerins, Conor Dean and Tom Daly.
Connacht Rugby Head Coach Andy Friend says there’s huge excitement about returning to action:
“It has been almost 6 months since our last game and 2 months since we commenced pre-season training, so we are delighted our return has finally arrived. I have been really impressed with how the squad as a group have reacted to the uncertainty of the last few months, and it’s now our opportunity to show that hard work against an opposing team.”
Commenting on his team selection, Friend added:
“We have selected a squad of 23 that we believe can win this fixture. We have a neat blend of experience & youth, with the potential of five new debutants for Connacht, along with Bundee making his 100th appearance. It’s therefore a special occasion in many ways, and we intend to put out a performance that warrants that.”

“With such a long season coming up, everybody wants to play the first game but there’s a lot of rugby to be played.
“We said all along that getting back to playing rugby on Saturday night is our sole objective.
“A few of the guys in isolation were very close to getting into the team and they worked really hard but obviously the fact they were in self-isolation ruled them out.
“They are training away at home and as soon as they come out of self-isolation, they will be available for selection again.”

If you are a new online bettor, chances are the huge array of betting sites you can now place wagers at has left you feeling a little overwhelmed. We’re happy to report that with such a wide selection of top-quality sbobet sites, it’s now easier than ever to find your ideal online betting home. Some key things to remember when choosing the perfect site for you is that your preferred betting site should always be safe, reliable and offer every type of bet you would like to place.
Thanks to the rapid expansion of the Internet, online betting markets continue to flourish. Nowadays, bettors can place wagers wherever and whenever they want from all corners of the globe. With more new online betting sites launching every day, we thought it would be useful to put together a quick go-to guide that outlines everything you need to look for in a top sbobet site.
What To Consider Before Placing an Online Bet
When it comes to placing a sports bet, there are a number of different factors you need to consider before you can start looking for the ideal sbobet site to suit your personal needs. Features like bonuses and free bet opportunities are definitely worth considering during your hunt for the perfect betting site. These bonuses can help add additional value, which ensures you are getting the best value for your money. Bonuses can vary depending on the site you choose to register at, so it is vital that you secure a good selection of bonuses and promotional offers that will continue to provide additional value as you place wagers at your chosen site. With so much competition in the online betting market, it has never been a better time to be a new betting customer. You have the power to join different betting sites and the top sbobet sites are falling over themselves to provide you with exceptional welcome offers. This is to help increase the number of new bettors joining the site.
As well as being on the lookout for a stellar bonus, bettors should also consider the security on offer at an online betting site. In recent years, security has started to become increasingly important to many customers. The sbobet site you choose to register at should always have a good reputation and strong levels of customer service. This ensures that you can easily get in touch with a team member from the betting site should you encounter any issues.
Another key factor to take into consideration is the types of sports available to bet on at different online betting sites. Whilst some sites will cover every conceivable sport, others will focus on offering a smaller selection of sports bets. It is often very difficult to strike the right balance regarding the selection of sports you offer and the variety of betting options. These are the three main factors you should consider before you can start placing sports wagers.
Placing Your First Wager at a Sbobet Site
After you have taken the time to consider the bonuses and promotions and security of a site, as well as the types of sports you would like to bet on, you’ll be one step closer to finding the ideal online betting site to call home.
When it comes to placing your first online sports wager, your first step will be finding a suitable sportsbook. The vast majority of bettors prefer to place wagers online instead of in-person. This is mainly because of the high levels of convenience online betting offers. Nowadays, there are numerous betting sites to pick and choose from, but once you have found one that ticks all of the boxes, you’ll be ready to create a new betting account. This process is quick and simple to complete.
Once the registration process is complete, you will then need to add funds to your new betting account. To do this, you’ll need to visit the cashier section of the betting site. From here you can select your preferred betting method and type in the desired deposit amount. A large number of online bettors will still opt to use the tried and tested credit/debit card payment method. If you are not comfortable using your personal banking details online, you’ll easily be able to opt for an alternative payment method.
Understanding Betting Odds
When it comes to betting odds, sportsbooks will use these to determine the payoff you will receive from different sbobet wagers. As some teams are more likely to claim a victory over other teams, the payoff you receive for betting on certain sports teams will be different. For example, if you choose to place a wager on a team that will likely lose, you are guaranteed to receive high potential payouts.
One of the main reasons sbobet sites offers different payouts, it to ensure they receive a varied amount of betting activity on both sides of a sporting match. By offering bigger payouts for the team that is more likely to lose, the sbobet site will be able to attract bettors willing to place a wager on the underdog.
Is Good Customer Service Key in the Online Betting Industry?
For many online bettors, good levels of customer service are often an important factor when it comes to choosing where they will place wagers. Online gambling sites that have a great reputation for customer service will find it easier to attract new customers. One of the easiest ways to determine whether a betting site offers good customer service is by taking a look at their active social channels. Taking the time to like a sbobet site on Facebook can help you see how the brand interacts with existing customers. More often than not, a sportsbook with a strong social media presences is more likely to be able to deal with any potential issues in a timely fashion. As well as looking into customer service, make sure to read previous reviews of the site.
Sam Bennett gave Deceuninck – Quick-Step their 24th win of the year as the Irishman sprinted to victory in Visé after an exciting day of racing on Stage 3 at the Tour de Wallonie.
The win, Bennett’s fourth victory of the season, was dedicated to teammates Remco Evenepoel, Fabio Jakobsen and Yves Lampaert, all of whom were injured in the past fortnight.
“This one is for those guys!” Bennett said, “Hopefully they have a good recovery and will join the Wolfpack, where they are missed, as soon as possible. It’s good to have some luck again and we hope it will be again on our side after today.”
The stage saw a number of riders attacking early and establishing a four-minute maximum lead before being reeled in with 40 kilometres remaining. The crucial point of the race turned out to be, unsurprisingly, Côte de Cheratte at a gradient of 12.5%, and it was here that Florian Sénéchal launched an attack which stretched out the field and triggered a powerful surge of Zdenek Stybar. The cobbled Classics specialist leaped away, taking just three riders along with him, before the quartet opened up a promising 20-second margin inside the last eight kilometres.
A furious chase ensued, but the four looked capable of holding off the remnants of the bunch, only to be hauled back just 500 metres from the finish. That was the cue for Sénéchal to set a searing pace at the front of the group that created a split which left just four men in contention. One of them was Sam Bennett, and the 29-year-old Irishman launched a devastating sprint to take a convincing win over Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ) and John Degenkolb (Lotto-Soudal).
“I worked really hard the last month and yesterday didn’t reflect that, so I was a bit disappointed. I didn’t expect a big turnaround today, but I just rode and kept fighting over that climb. The team was fantastic, rode incredibly well and I’m so proud of them. The final was harder than yesterday, but I made it and had strong legs in the sprint. I’m happy with this win, one that I really needed with ten days to go until the Tour de France”, Bennett concluded.
The government is due to announce new measures banning all supporters from attending Irish sports events for the next month.
Previously there had been up to 200 people allowed to attend sporting events that were held outdoors, but with the rise in figures over the last week NEPTH has recommended there should be no one supporters allowed at matches. These measures will be in place up until 13 September.
Revenue for clubs
This will be a huge blow to club GAA teams who had been hoping the number was going to raise to 500 from 200, these clubs depend hugely to gate receipts and will see a huge drop in revenue.
Future events
With Pro 14 rugby and the All Ireland football championship starting back in October its hoped by every fan that the ban on supporters attending Irish sports events will be lifted in the next six to eight weeks.

The combined market value of the world’s five most expensive football players stood at €676 million in April 2020, a €144 million plunge since December 2019.
Neymar’s Market Value Plunged by €32 Million
The KPMG’s analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on football players’ market value revealed the combined value of all 4,183 players in ten European leagues would decrease by €6.6 bn, a 17.7% fall in the case season continues with games played behind closed doors.
The TransferMarkt data showed that Kylian Mbappé, the most expensive football player globally, witnessed a €20 million plunge in his market valuation. In December 2019, the center-forward of Paris Saint-Germain was valued at €200 million. In the next four months, his market value dropped to $180 million.
His team-mate Neymar lost €32 million in market value amid coronavirus crisis, the second-largest market value drop in 2020. Statistics show the famous left-winger was valued at €160 million in December 2019. By the end of April, his market value stood at €128 million, a €32 million plunge in four months.
Manchester City’s left-winger, Raheem Sterling, as the third most expensive football player in the world, also lost €32 million in market valuation, a 20% plunge in four months.
Statistics show the fourth and the fifth most valued football players globally lost €60 million in combined market valuation. In April, Liverpool’s left-winger Sadio Mané was valued at €120 million, a €30 million drop since December last year. His team-mate Mohamed Salah witnessed identical financial hit, with his market valuation stumbling from €150 million to €120 million amid coronavirus crisis.
The TransferMarkt data also revealed that Real Madrid’s left-winger Eden Hazard had witnessed the most significant drop in market valuation in 2020, with his value falling from €120 million to €80 million between December and April.
Top Three Market Value Increases in 2020
Although the coronavirus crisis caused significant market valuation drops for the world’s most expensive footballers, some players witnessed their values rise in 2020. The market value of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies rose by €35 million since December last year, reaching €60 million in July, the most significant increase in 2020. In April, the club announced they had signed 19-year old Canadian star to a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2025.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland ranked second on the list of the biggest increases, with his market value rising by €27 million in 2020. Statistics show the market value of the 20-year old Norwegian player grew from €45 million in December 2019 to €72 million in April.
Right-winger of Sevilla FC, Lucas Ocampos, has witnessed his market value double and hit €50 million in July, the third-largest increase this year.
It has been confirmed that Joey Carbery will not be available for an indefinite period of time.
Following his latest meeting with the specialist, the 24-year-old playmaker has been advised to take further steps in rehabilitating his ankle, and to delay his return to rugby.
Speaking about the latest update, Head Coach Johann van Graan said: “As disappointing as the latest news is, we have Joey at the centre of it all, going through this, and doing everything right in making sure that when he returns to the pitch he stays on the pitch.
“That’s what we all want at the end of this, and undoubtedly it has been a tough blow for him, but he has shown great resilience already and will do everything that’s asked of him for this next phase also.
“A serious injury like his can heal in different ways and now that we’re moving into the return to rugby stage the ankle isn’t where it should be in hitting those next markers.
“David (Nucifora), Andy (Farrell) and I spoke with Joey last week and all want what’s best for him. We know his standing in the province and Irish rugby and how important he is to us all. Our priority is to look after him. He is a young man with huge sporting talent and a bright future, we are here to support Joey at every stage giving him the time he needs.
“There is a lot of rugby to be played in the coming season and we look forward to welcoming Joey back when he is fully recovered.”
Joey Carbey added: “It’s an incredibly frustrating time at the moment, but I am making good progress over the last couple of weeks.
“Even though the ankle isn’t where it needs to be just yet, I’ve full confidence it will heal and be pain-free soon, and I will be back better than ever. I just need time right now.
“I’d like to say thank you to the IRFU and Munster for their continued support and for having my back throughout it all.
“I’d also like to thank my girlfriend Robyn and my family for always being there when I need them.
“Lastly, to the fans, I’m so excited to get back out in front of you guys. It’s going to be such an exciting season ahead and I cannot wait to see where we can go as a squad. Hopefully, we will all be back in Thomond Park soon together.”
In other player news, Tadhg Beirne has resumed team training this week following a low-grade leg injury.
Continuing to rehab: Joey Carbery (ankle), Mike Haley (calf), Dan Goggin (ankle), Roman Salanoa (abdominal).
