2020 Premier League Darts Aberdeen – Preview, schedule & results

Van Gerwen avenges Wright defeat on Unibet Premier League Night One

Michael van Gerwen went some way to avenging his World Championship final defeat to Peter Wright, edging their Alexandra Palace rematch 7-5 on Night One of the 2020 Unibet Premier League in Aberdeen.

The 16th staging of the Premier League got underway in front of over 7,000 fans at the brand new P&J Live, with five-time Premier League champion Van Gerwen winning a thriller against Wright.

A typically high-quality affair between the world’s top two saw six ton-plus finishes landed, but it was Van Gerwen’s 104.13 average which eventually proved too much for Wright to handle.

Wright, who famously dethroned Van Gerwen as World Champion on New Year’s Day, got off to an ideal start with finishes of 120 and 80 to take a 2-0 lead, but Van Gerwen replied with checkouts of 120 and 106 to go 3-2 up.

The next six legs all went with throw to put Van Gerwen 6-5 up, and the Dutchman struck the vital break of throw in the final leg of the match to get off to a winning start in his quest for a fifth consecutive Premier League crown.

“I think it went well tonight, I can’t complain with how I played,” said Van Gerwen, who crashed out of The Masters in round one last Friday.

“I’m going through a tough time at the moment with getting used to my new darts.

“I can do whatever I want in practice with any darts but it’s different when you’re on the big stage.

“But the decision to change is something I needed to do for the long-term benefit of my career.

“Of course I felt under pressure tonight not being World Champion, but I’ve put a lot of work in and I think I can build from here.”

Two-time Premier League champion Gary Anderson was the only Scottish winner in Aberdeen as he made a successful return to Premier League action, recovering from 5-4 down to defeat Daryl Gurney 7-5 in an encapsulating encounter.

Starring in his first Premier League match in almost two years after a back injury ruled him out of the 2019 campaign, Anderson looked to be heading for defeat after Gurney broke throw to move 5-4 up in a tight encounter.

However, two-time Premier League champion Anderson found his best form as he fired in legs of 13, 12 and 12 darts to delight a partisan Scottish crowd.

“Tonight felt like the first time I ever played in front of a big crowd, I’m still shaking,” Anderson admitted.

“I was struggling against Daryl, I can never get a rhythm against him, but I changed it up and thankfully it worked.

“I’m giving myself three months to get my game back, it feels like I’m learning the game again but I’m getting there.

“The crowd tonight was incredible, it’s a real pleasure to play in amazing venues like this in front of your home crowd. I’m going to enjoy tonight.”

It was a perfect start to life as full-time Premier League players for Nathan Aspinall and Glen Durrant, who recorded wins over John Henderson and Michael Smith respectively.

Henderson’s highly-anticipated return to Aberdeen was spoiled by Aspinall, who cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Scot.

Appearing as the first of nine Challengers following his famous draw with Van Gerwen in 2019, Henderson got off to a slow start and never recovered as Aspinall picked up a win in his first match as a Premier League player.

With Henderson waiting on 96 to go within a leg of Aspinall, the UK Open champion landed a trademark 170 checkout to halt any hopes of a Henderson fightback before seeing the game out.

“It’s a bit of a strange feeling, I’m delighted to win but I’m not happy with how I played,” Aspinall admitted.

“After what we saw in Aberdeen last year I was expecting the worst in terms of my crowd reception but it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be.

“I think they were a bit flat because John didn’t perform tonight, I feel for him because he’s a great guy but I have a job to do.

“I didn’t play well either to be honest, I threw three good darts in the match and they were to take out the 170 which won me the game.

“I think playing The Masters last week was an advantage for me, it meant I got the winning feeling back, whereas John hasn’t played on stage for a couple of months.”

Meanwhile, Durrant missed just two darts at double in a ruthless 7-3 defeat of 2018 Premier League runner-up Smith.

The three-time BDO Champion defied a ten-point deficit in the averages to lead 3-2 and, after Smith missed crucially missed two darts at double in leg seven, Durrant extended his lead to three legs at 5-2.

From there, Durrant never looked back, clinically seeing out the match to taste victory in his first outing as a full-time Premier League player.

“It’s a great start, I beat an amazing player tonight on one of the biggest occasions of my career,” said Durrant, who will face Challenger Fallon Sherrock in Nottingham on Night Two.

“Michael makes the game look effortless and I didn’t mean to upset his rhythm with my slower play.

“I was very nervous today, even from early this morning but I had a lovely phone call from my wife before I played and that really helped me.

“Three years ago I was watching the Premier League on a tiny TV at a club in Stockton – people were saying to me ‘you could be playing in this one day Glen’ and now I’m here – it’s an amazing story.

“My only target for this year’s Premier League is not to finish last and make sure I make it past Judgement Night.”

The final game of the night saw Gerwyn Price recover from 6-4 down to salvage a 6-6 draw with Rob Cross.

After taking out 124 to open up a 4-2 lead, Price was pegged back as Cross won four legs in succession to secure a point.

A 130 checkout from world number three Price sparked the Welshman back into life and he backed it up with a 13-dart leg to take a share of the spoils.

The 2020 Unibet Premier League continues with Night Two in Nottingham on Thursday February 13as global sensation Sherrock makes her Premier League debut as a Challenger, while Scotland’s World Cup winners Anderson and Wright go head-to-head.

We preview the opening night of Premier League Darts in Aberdeen, with many strange results expected.

Peter Wright makes his homecoming on what promises to be a special night for Scottish darts with Gary Anderson and John Henderson also returning to the big stage.

The Premier League roadshow will see nine of the world’s biggest stars go head-to-head across 17 nights of action, kicking off at the new P&J Live venue in front of 7,000 fans.

A highly-anticipated opening night will see newly-crowned World Champion Wright joined by fellow-Scottish stars Anderson, who will make his Premier League return, and Henderson, the first of nine Challengers.

Wright claimed World Championship glory on New Year’s Day at Alexandra Palace as he sensationally defeated Van Gerwen 7-3 to claim the Sid Waddell Trophy and take his mantle as World Champion.

The pair will renew rivalries on Wright’s home soil as the Scot eyes his maiden Premier League title to banish the demons from the infamous 2017 final which saw him miss six match darts for the title.

“The World Championship is won, that’s off the list, now I want to finally get my hands on that Premier League title,” said Wright, who won his first Masters title on Sunday.

“I would say the 2017 Premier League final is probably the most painful defeat I’ve suffered, but by the next day I’d got it out of my head by winning a floor tournament and hitting a nine-darter.

“You can’t do anything about the past, you have to look to the future and I think that’s my biggest strength which, ultimately, is what led to me lifting the World title.

“You’ve just got to learn how to forget things. Once you’ve released your three darts you can’t take them back out the board and have another go, you’ve just got to make sure your next turn is better.

“Thursday will be an amazing night for Scottish darts with Gary making his comeback and John is a huge crowd favourite.

“Scottish darts is in a great place at the moment and to showcase that on the opening Premier League night will be really special.”

World number one Van Gerwen will be seeking immediate revenge for his World Championship defeat as the Dutchman opens his challenge to win an unprecedented fifth successive Premier League title.

Van Gerwen has dominated the competition since his debut in 2013, winning the league phase every year; a record he is determined to continue into 2020.

“I love to perform on the biggest stages and the Premier League is the perfect tournament for that, so I’m looking forward to it,” said Van Gerwen.

“I have performed very well in the tournament over the years and if I keep my focus each week then I will continue that this year.

“You have to perform every single week and if you don’t you will lose because you are playing the best of the best. I see every game as a final, that’s how you need to approach it.

“Of course it was a disappointment to lose the World Championship final, but you have to look forward and that starts this Thursday against Peter.”

2011 and 2015 Premier League Champion Anderson will make his Premier League return against Northern Ireland’s Daryl Gurney, with the Scot having missed last year’s campaign due to a back injury.

The two-time World Champion is firmly established as a Scottish sporting hero but the 49-year-old insists he still has the hunger for more titles.

“It will be great to be back in the Premier League, I must admit I’m looking forward to it,” said Anderson.

“Last year there was no way I could’ve played with the state of my back, but I did enjoy spending 16 weeks with my family.

“This year will be about finding the perfect balance between spending time at home and playing, hopefully we will find that balance.

“To me it’s not all about winning, I just want ‘my game’ back; I want to play free-flowing like I used to without pain, and if I can do that then I’ll be a happy man.

“It will be great to play in the magnificent new arena in Aberdeen, I’m already very impressed with it so to see it full will be quite a sight.”

Local hero Henderson famously lit up the old Aberdeen venue in 2019 with a spine-tingling walk-on followed by a thrilling 6-6 draw with Van Gerwen.

This year he will face UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall, who will be competing in his first full Premier League campaign, with over 7,000 fans set to pack the state-of-the-art venue.

“If Thursday night is even half as good as last year I will be delighted,” Henderson revealed.

“Last year goes down as one of the best and most emotional nights of my life, so to have the chance to do it all over again is amazing.

“Because I got a draw with Michael last year some people will think I will beat Nathan, but I know how good Nathan is and it will be a really tough game.

“I’ll give it my all and hopefully I can create some memories in front of what will be another incredible crowd.”

The opening night will also see newcomer Glen Durrant play 2018 runner-up Michael Smith, while two-time Grand Slam Champion Gerwyn Price takes on last year’s runner-up Rob Cross.

The first nine nights of action will see a different Challenger in action, culminating in Judgement Night in Rotterdam on March 26 where the ninth-placed player will be eliminated.

Following Judgement Night, the remaining eight players meet once more in the remaining seven league nights in Belfast, Sheffield, Manchester, Berlin, Birmingham, Glasgow and Leeds.

The top four players then progress to face off for the title, and a £250,000 top prize, in the Play-Offs at The O2 in London on Thursday May 21.

The tournament will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK, on PDCTV for Rest of the World Subscribers and through the PDC’s worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and RTL7.

Top Tips On Choosing The Perfect Golf Bag

Playing golf is not only fun; it actually offers a wide variety of mental and physical benefits that can improve your health and wellness in the long run. Regularly playing golf can reduce stress and anxiety, allow you to socialize with other people, and aid in weight loss.

For you to enjoy all of the benefits of playing golf, you need to be well-equipped for the sport. A golf carry bag, for example, is a must-have because it allows you to easily carry all of the bare essentials of the sport. These bags are structure-less and can be folded for easy storage.

To help you pick the perfect golf carry bag, take note of these tips:

  1. Understand The Types Of Golf Carry Bags

After deciding that you’re going to buy golf carry bags, knowing its types should be next on your to-do list. There are different types of golf carry bags available in the market today, and knowing the difference of each can help you narrow down your options and prevent you from making purchases that you’ll regret after.

Generally, golf carry bags come in the following types:

  • Staff bags: These types of golf carry bags are considered as the top of the line and the best in its kind. Because of its storage space and aesthetics, staff bags are often used by professional golf players.

This type of golf carry bag usually weighs around ten pounds, which can become a challenge if you play golf without any caddy. You can place the bag in your cart, but that still means pushing around some extra weight.

  • Cart bags: Unlike staff bags, cart bags are lighter and smaller. These types of golf carry bags are meant to be carried on a golf cart because its structure provides access to all of its pockets.

Although cart bags only weigh around six to seven pounds, carrying them on your back can still result in pain and discomfort. This is especially true if you’re fond of playing golf for long hours.

  • Stand bags: As the name suggests, stand bags come with two retractable legs that allow the bag to stand upright or stand canted. Stand bags are a great option for individuals who love walking around the course as they won’t have to leave their clubs on the cart whenever they are lining up a putt.

  1. Check The Club Dividers And Pocket

All golf carry bags allow you to bring all of your equipment from one spot to another, but this shouldn’t be your only concern; you should also look after the condition of your clubs when these are inside your bag.

When choosing a golf carry bag, check its club dividers and pockets. These features are essential to prevent your clubs from smashing against each other and protect them from dents and scratches.

Depending on the type of golf carry bag you choose to buy, you can usually enjoy three to five divider pockets inside. One general rule to follow when checking the dividers and pockets is to make sure that you actually feel comfortable with how your clubs fit inside the bag.

  1. Assess Its Level Of Comfort

On average, you need to spend four hours to complete one round of 18 holes in golf. The number of hours you spend on the golf course can increase, especially if you’re planning to do more than one round.

To ensure that you will always have enough energy to finish one round of golf (and more), assess how comfortable you are when using a golf carry bag. Your golf carry bag should feel comfortable regardless of how long you’ll carry it. Remember, you want the sport to provide benefits, and not become the reason for your injuries.

The golf carry bag you’ll choose should have a wide, padded, and adjustable strap that sits square on both of your shoulders.

  1. Look For Extras

Since a golf carry bag isn’t a cheap investment (this costs at least $150 and can go as much as $400), you would always want to make the most out of this product. Aside from carrying all of your golf essentials around, a golf carry bag that comes with other extras is always a great buy.

For your next (or first) golf carry bag, carefully look at its features and assess if it can do more than just carry your essentials. Is it water-proof? Can you remove the shoulder straps? Is it cart-friendly? Does it have style? The more extras a golf carry bag has, the better.

Think Long-Term

When buying a golf carry bag, consider several options, and take time to weigh the pros and cons of each. The price of this equipment is an important deciding factor, but remember to also pay attention to the brand’s durability and track record in the industry.

Buying cheap equipment that will require you to pay for replacements or repairs after a few months can result in a lot of stress and expenses. In worse cases, buying a low-quality golf carry bag can even become the reason why you’ll lose the motivation to play the sport.

The Irish Premier League: who is in pole position?

The race for the Irish premier league has just begun, even at that, all clubs have proven in one way or the other why they are at the position they are presently holding. And in a few months, it will become clearer who wins it all and who goes out of the top-flight league. Currently, at matchday two, the league is still up for the taken. Here is how the league has been so far.

The Ireland Premier League is currently being topped by the unstoppable Shamrocks who came third last season. They have won two out of two games and have only let just a single goal in. Their first win came against the Waterford with a slender 2-1 win away from home courtesy goals from A. Greene and E. Boyle. Shamrocks Rovers also defeated Derry City with a positive exhibition and, adding to the 2-0-win, Derry City received a late red card which made sure they had no shout back in the game.

Closely behind Shamrock rovers are Bohemian FC and St Patrick’s Athletic who are also yet to drop a point this season. The Bohemian FC has kept a clean sheet in the two games they have played and are only bettered by the goal difference of the Shamrock Rovers who have scored more goals than them. D. Corcoran is their present highest goal scorer having scored two goals in two matches.

Up there in the top is the St Patrick’s Athletic, who have also not let a single goal in this season. This can be attributed to their solid backline who are always on hand to deny even the very best goal scorers. If they keep their compact defensive exhibitions, one can expect them to be quite difficult to break for opposite teams.

The winner of the competition last season Dundalk FC have not found the new season easier, presently holding the sixth position on the table with two unconvincing draws against Sligo Rovers, and another 1-1 draw against Finn Harps. We can only expect a better run from them in the coming week; it is worthy to note though that the league is still very much open for winning.

While some sides are enjoying remarkable success, one of the top team has been finding the season very hard to cope with. Coming second last season, Cork City has failed to either score a single goal this season or to win a single game. They have been beaten both by St Patrick’s Athletic and disgraceful 2-0 by Waterford FC. This has left them in the bottom of the league looking for the way to the top.

The University College Dublin who was the First Division Champion last season had found the Premier League tougher than expected. Having shipped in 5 goals in two games scoring none, they are probably on their way to the first division if things don’t change in a few weeks.  As of present, they have conceded more goals, and they are one of the two teams yet to score a goal this season.

About individual figures, M. Drennan from St. Patrick and D. Corcoran, who plays are the Bohemians, are presently tied as the league highest goal scoresr with two goals in two games.

It is important to note that at the end of the season, the league winner will be qualified for the UEFA Champions League where they will have the opportunity to compete against the top teams in Europe, but they will need to pass through three qualifying rounds to get into the group stages. The past July Cork City, 2017 season title winners, had to face polish champions Legia Warsaw and they were defeated both at home (0-1) and away (0-3). The irish team later fell down to second tier of European international football, Europa League, but they lost again at the hands or Norwegian team Rosenborg. The other irish team in this competition Dundalk FC, also left the competition very early, getting beaten 4-0 at Cyprus, after a draw at home against AEK Larnaca. The same Dundalk FC who in the season before was almost operating a miracle of getting into Champions League, after successfully passing two rounds but failed to do the last step by losing by an aggregate score of 3-1 against… Legia Warsaw.

It is unquestionable that work needs to be done and the Irish Premier League needs to take measures to be able to bring back moments of glory to Irish football. Also, let’s stay away from the polish folks who seem to be the favorite killer of Irish hopes and dreams!

DCU win Collingwood Cup

DCU have won the Irish Universities Collingwood Cup. In the 100th staging of the tournament it was the Dublin college that came out on top against Ulster University in a penalty shootout at Dalymount Park. DCU winning 4-1 in the end.

It was both sides third game in a matter of days. The game was a tight contest. Dylan Connolly went close early on for DCU. He was found with a neat pass by Sean McCarthy but his low finish went wide of the post. Jack O’Connor probably had the best chance on the night with half time approaching. He made a good run beating Ulster University defenders  Nathan Best and Stephen Cairns. He then cut inside into the box, before rounding goalkeeper Matt McClurg and striking goal bound. However, his shot was taken off the goal line by Owen McConville.

The second half slowed in pace. This was probably due to the games played throughout the tournament. However, Ryan Connolly had a good effort on goal but it just went over the bar of McClurg. Taylor then had a free that also went over the bar. However, the deadlock couldn’t be broken and therefore extra time was needed. However, it remained scoreless in extra time and penalties were needed to determine the winner.

David Mugulu, Sean McCarthy, Tristan Noach Hofmann and Jack O’Connor all beating McClurg in the Ulster University goal.  However, it was DCU who go home with the trophy and are crowned the Collingwood Cup champions for 2020.

Player of the Tournament: Eric Whelan (DCU)

DCU: I Toth; R Smith, P Kelly, E Whelan, T Noach Hofmann; S Cronin, A Connolly (J Rice 99); S Trimble (D Mugalu 79), J O’Sullivan (D Sexton 59), S McCarthy, J O’Connor.

Ulster University: M McClurg; S Cairns, M Greenfield, O McConville. C Taylor; M McKenna, N McGinley; N Best (R Weatherhead 77), R Wilson, N Maciulaitis; N Beta.

What To Look For When Buying American Football Gloves

Football is one of those sports that expose players to sprains and other injuries regularly. The importance of wearing the right football gear keeps players protected from unnecessary physical pain and injury. We know how important wearing the right football helmet is—we see professional football players donning them during games. But wearing the most suitable football gloves should also not be ignored.

Football Gloves: For Protection and Performance

Being an athlete is not easy. You work hard to improve your skills. You eat right and exercise regularly to keep your body in top condition. But if you’re a football player, you should also invest in the right gear to maximize your performance and keep you safe during the game.

The Internet holds a wealth of information on how to choose the right pair of football gloves. You should take the time to find a great review on the best grip football gloves. There are different factors to consider when buying football gloves. These questions will guide you on what you should look for when purchasing football gloves.

  1. Who will use the football gloves?

When purchasing football gloves, one of the most important factors to consider is who will use the gear. Remember to take the age of the player and the player’s position into consideration.

  • Age: It is not right to let a young football player wear adult gloves. Fit is critical in buying football gloves. The gloves should fit comfortably—it must not be too tight nor too loose. Youth football gloves are available at any sporting goods store. Football gloves for adults are naturally bigger than youth football gloves. It is crucial to buy this gear based on the age of the user to make sure the size, weight, and flexibility work for them.

  • Position: When it comes to football gloves, it is essential to choose a pair that is suitable for the position that you hold. Football is a position-based sport, thus your football gloves must help you handle your role in the game effectively.

  • Quarterback – As the primary ball-handler, you should choose thinner, lightweight gloves so that you have better control of the ball. Avoid football gloves with dense padding as it can affect your grip on the ball.

  • Lineman – In comparison to a quarterback’s football gloves, a lineman’s should have thick, durable padding. Linemen’s football gloves also have thick wrist straps to protect the player from impact and overextending their wrist.

  • Wide Receiver – If you’re holding this position, then your goal is to catch the ball and hold on to it. Receiver gloves must be flexible and have excellent grip support.

  • Defensive Back – The role of the defensive back is very physical, so their football gloves should have sufficient padding to protect them from impact. However, the defensive back’s gloves should not be too thick to prevent them from gripping the ball as needed.

  1. What features should football gloves have?

Playing football is fun, but it is also an aggressive and competitive sport. Your hands and fingers need to be protected from impact and injuries. Choosing a pair of football gloves must be taken seriously. The right pair can help you play better without worrying too much about getting hurt. The following features are what you should look for when buying football gloves:

  • Padding: Look for flexible padding that protects your palm and backhand. Depending on your position, you should look for football gloves that will protect your hand while allowing you to grip the ball comfortably.

  • Ventilation: Wearing football gloves with added ventilation helps your hands cool even when the game is getting rough. Choose a pair that uses mesh for better airflow to keep your fingers and hands from sweating too much.

  • Materials: Imagine wearing a pair of football gloves that break down while the game is ongoing. This is why buying a pair of high-quality football gloves matters because your performance and the safety of your hands depends on it. Avoid buying low-quality gloves for the sake of saving money. The best football gloves are made with sturdy yet stretchable materials.

  1. Where should I buy football gloves?

You can purchase football gloves from a physical store or an online shop. Both sources have their pros and cons. Buying your football gloves online is more convenient since you can have them delivered right to your doorstep. However, purchasing them at a brick-and-mortar store allows you to try out the gloves before paying for them. If it’s your first time to buy football gloves, you should buy them at a reputable physical sporting goods shop. Your succeeding purchases can be made online since you already know what type of football gloves to order.

Conclusion

Football gloves are not accessories that you can choose to wear today and forget about tomorrow. These gloves protect you from injuries and also improve your performance on the field. While football is a beautiful sport, it can also be very dangerous if you are not wearing the proper gear.

Mayo are 2/5 favourites to win this game. Meath are 5/2 outsiders. The draw is priced at 15/2. I can’t see Mayo losing this. They should win by 3 or 4 points. There is no live coverage of Meath v Mayo. There will be highlights on League Sunday.

Form
Carlow was defeated by Kilkenny  0-09 to 3-21  on the 2nd February whilst Dublin was defeated by Kilkenny 0-18 -3-21 earlier on the 26th January. The last season clash between the two ended with a win for Dublin. To date the Dubs have looked useful, this could be a big season for the county.

Carlow gained promotion 2 seasons ago and despite losing each of their matches to date, they have shown huge resolve and character. It is only a matter of time before the get the better of one of the bigger teams, but it is unlikely to be this weekend.

Team News

Carlow have yet to announce their starting fifteen for this match.

Players To Watch

Shane Kavanagh is the Carlow free taker and he can contribute much to his side this weekend.

Betting Advice:

Dublin are as short as 1/20 and while they should win, and win easily, this is a match to watch rather than have an interest in.

Preview

This game between old rivals promises to be a thrilling game. Tyrone have won one and lost so far this season. They beat Meath in their opening game 1-14 to 1-09 , before losing out to Monaghan last weekend. Mickey Harte will look to players like Darren McCurry, Ronan O’Neill and Peter Harte in attack. Players like Ronan McNamee and Tiernan McCann will be key players in the Red Hand defence.

Kerry are in fine form with one win and one draw from two games. The draw came against Dublin in the opening round of the league at Croke Park when it finished 1-19 apiece. They needed added time scores to secure the win over Galway last weekend but a win here would certainly set them up nicely.

Team News

Tyrone (FL1 v Kerry): Niall Morgan; Niall Kelly, Ronan McNamee, Liam Lafferty; Tiernan McCann, Rory Brennan, Peter Harte; Colm Cavanagh, Conn Kilpatrick; Kieran McGeary, Niall Sludden, Darren McCurry; Daniel Kerr, Frank Burns, Conor Meyler

Kerry (Allianz FL Division 1 v Tyrone): Shane Ryan; Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley, Graham O’Sullivan; Paul Murphy, Gavin Crowley, Gavin White; Liam Kearney, Jack Barry; Micheal Burns, Sean O’Shea, Stephen O’Brien; Killian Spillane, David Clifford, Paul Geaney.

Betting

Kerry are 4/6 to win this game, while Tyrone are 6/4 to win the game. The draw could be worth a bet at odds of 15/2. David Clifford at 6/1 to get the first goal looks a great bet. Kerry for me to win by 2 or 3 points. Tyrone v Kerry is live on TG4 at 2pm.

Farrell names team to play Wales

Ireland rugby boss Andy Farrell has named his team to play Wales on Saturday at 2.15pm in the Aviva Stadium. The team shows two changes from the side selected to start against Scotland weekend. We made our predicted team here on Monday and we weren’t far wrong.

In the front row Cian Healy, Rob Herring and Wexford’s Tadhg Furlong continue their partnership. The second row is also unchanged with Iain Henderson and James Ryan selected to start. Peter O’Mahony comes in at number 6, while CJ Stander switches to number 8 after Caelan Dorris is ruled out due to Return to play Protocols. Speaking of this Andy Farrell said, “He had a bit of a knock previously this year, we do the right thing by young kids and make sure they are treated properly”. Josh Van Der Flier also retains his place in the side.

In the backs Jordan Larmour is once again named at full back. Andrew Conway and Jacob Stockdale will occupy the wings. Johnny Sexton is once again at fly-half and will captain the side, he will be partnered by Conor Murray. In the centre Robbie Henshaw comes in to replace the injured Garry Ringrose, Bundee Aki is named once again.

On the bench Keith Earls returns from injury, while Max Deegan could make his Ireland debut also. Dave Kilcoyne, Andrew Porter and Devin Toner are also selected. Ross Byrne is named as the replacement fly-half, while John Cooney is expected to get game time once again.

Ireland come into the game with 2 World Cup warm game wins over the Welsh. However, when they last played in the Six Nations Wales romped to 25-7 win. Ireland will need to be at their very best if they are to come away with the win in my opinion.

Ireland: Jordan Larmour, Andrew Conway, Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Jacob Stockdale, Johnny Sexton (capt), Conor Murray; Cian Healy, Rob Herring, Tadhg Furlong, Iain Henderson, James Ryan, Peter O’Mahony, Josh van der Flier, CJ Stander

Replacements: Ronan Kelleher, Dave Kilcoyne, Andrew Porter, Devin Toner, Max Deegan, John Cooney, Ross Byrne, Keith Earls.
